5/4/2007: Presentation: PSU Outreach Advisory Board

I was invited to take part in a day long series of briefings to the Penn State Outreach Advisory Board focusing on the PSU World Campus. I have been asked to start the series of presentations this morning to lay out some of the challenges and opportunities we face as it relates to teaching and learning with technology.
I'll be doing my usual Web 2.0 thing, but with a slightly different slant this time — I want them to be excited and interested in how emerging technologies are becoming more a part of everyday life and learning. I have attached the PDF of my slides.

4/30/07: Presentation: Platforms for Digital Expression PSU College of Education

I was lucky enough on Monday to talk to a group of faculty (and a few grad students) from the PSU College of Education. Amazing hour and a half … one that left me feeling very good about the relationships we are developing there. In general I would classify the faculty there as both innovative and very interested in the use of technology to appropriately enhance the learning environment. I should have written about this as soon as it was over, but I didn't.
The talk was really focusing on the infrastructure we have been trying to put into place to support digital expression. I spent time on everything from trends and key statistics we are collecting our campus, to FaceBook, Net Generation expectations, to what we are doing to support it all. I spent quite a bit of time actually showing faculty the insides of both Penn State on iTunes U and the Blogs at Penn State toolset. There were great conversations related to how one might integrate these things into their classroom experiences.
Slides are available as a PDF.

4/21/07: Featured Presentation: ITS Event

This past week I did two sessions at the ITS Event and Expo. From the reports I received there were well over 1,100 people who walked through the show floor. Both of my sessions focused on podcasting and blogging at Penn State … they were only 25 minutes a piece, so I had to leave out the wiki portion of what I had planned to do. I have had several requests for the slides, so I have linked them here as a PDF … enjoy and please feel free to leave comments.
Download the presentation … BTW, sorry the file is so big (11 MB). I used a few high-resolution photos in it.

3/1/07: Invited Talk: Apple Inc: Supporting Digital Expression

I was invited, along with Penn State's College of Education, by Apple Inc. to share my vision as it relates to supporting digital expression and to take part in a conversation related to one-to-one computing. I have worked hard over the last 18 or so months to make sure PSU is moving in the right direction as it relates to supporting faculty, staff, and students in the art of being digital. This presentation focuses on the infrastructure we have worked to establish on our campus as well as some of the results of our ongoing efforts in the areas of podcasting, blogging, and digital media creation.
Take a look at the 10 MB PDF.

2/07/07: Fetured Talk: Open Minds: Web 2.0 in the Higher Education Enterprise

Tomorrow I'll be presenting at the Open Minds series about Web 2.0 in the Higher Education Enterprise. This is a two hour session for people in PSU Outreach — I originally expected an hour and an audience of about 25 … we're now around 50 and the time has obviously grown. The presentation is a mash-up of a bunch of stuff I've done in the past with a little twist to the delivery. I want to be able to make the point that PSU is now in the middle of the Web 2.0 space and delivering quality services to our populations.
If you want to take a peek at the presentation, here is a 19 MB Flash version, and here it as a downloadable PDF.

Penn State on iTunes U and Podcasting Talk

I gave a talk at the ITS Forum yesterday with a colleague here at Penn State related to Podcasting and Penn State on iTunes U yesterday. Jimmy V focused on the hard core technology behind making the iTunes U system work in our environment, while I did a more general talk focusing on why we would do podcasting at the Institutional level, an update on the state of podcasting in general, and a full on demo of our iTunes U space. Reaction was fairly positive … at any rate here is a QuickTime file of the slides without audio or any real content, but there they are … there is a podcast and a videocast of the session being produced — I’ll link that when it is available.
